We are preparing this lovely lady for our upcoming Birds in Flight Photography sessions. She is a Ferruginous Hawk and is the largest Hawk species on the continent. She still has some training equipment on in the video that will be removed in the sessions. We are aiming to have her out this coming Saturday for her debut. Meet Mother Ferruginous Hawk “Donna” and her four newly hatched babies here at CRC. Their Dad is “Uncle Larry” a 22 year old male. This Hawk species is the largest in North America. They range throughout the southern prairies where they were once a highly endangered bird. We call the Ferruginous Hawk a Farmers Best Friend as they prey upon Ground Squirrels (Prairie Dogs). They used to be very well know for their habit of scraping together Buffalo bones to build their large ground resting nests.
