Meet Mother Ferruginous Hawk “Donna” and her four newly hatched babies here at CRC. Their Dad is “Uncle Larry” a 22 year old male. This Hawk species is the largest in North America. They range throughout the southern prairies where they were once a highly endangered bird. We call the Ferruginous Hawk a Farmers Best Friend as they prey upon Ground Squirrels (Prairie Dogs). They used to be very well know for their habit of scraping together Buffalo bones to build their large ground resting nests.
